RISE ABOVE MARCH 2023 Minutes Meeting March 4, 2023
at David A. Howe Library, Wellsville

Attending: Jeremy, Anna, Steven, Sheila, Christina (via Zoom) Absent: Carol

All Reviewed the Rise Above Mission Statement. November 2022 meeting minutes
were reviewed.  Jeremy motioned to accept the minutes. Steven seconded the
motion.

- 2023 Members and positions
  Jeremy motioned that the 2023 Board expand to include seven members.
  Sheila seconded the motion. All members approved.
  - President: Jeremy confirmed renewed term. Approved by all members
  - Vice President: Sheila confirmed renewed term. Approved by all members
  - Treasurer: Jeremy self-nominated/confirmed renewed term. Approved by all
    members
  - Secretary: Sheila agreed to serve as interim secretary pending
    confirmation of another member (Alexis?) to serve in this position
  - Member at Large: Anna self-nominated after receiving clarification from
    Christina regarding the duties of this position. (Community liaison
    representing the needs of area residents and the Rise Above mission,
    working with local agencies and individuals to assess, promote, and
    implement services offered at Rise Above.)
  - Associate Members: Christina remains an associate member from her new
    location in Maryland
  - Steven Sweet
  - Carol & Alexis (absent) to be added to the active Board pending email
    confirmation (Christina will be providing Jeremy with Alexis current
    contact information.)

- Treasurer's Report
  - Current balance is still $706.00, no transactions since our last report.
  - 990-N e-file will likely be filed in March.
    Jeremy will have all reports filed prior to the next meeting.

- Recap 2022 Activities
  - Rise Above was/is a member of the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce
  - Positive feedback from participation in the Mainstreet Festival and the
    Spring Clean-up
  - Luminous Healing and Lighthouse talks were well-received and attended by
    members of the community in need of these services.
  - Book Discussion group successfully resumed meetings at the library

2023 Activities
  - Anna and Jeremy will coordinate to schedule and announce practitioners'
    policy meeting with revisions to building use policy.
  - Anna will reach out to Bruce at WACOC to register Rise Above to
    participate in the Spring Clean-up and the Balloon Rally Mainstreet
    Festival (Registration forms were posted online this week.) Anna would
    like to invite Cindy and Kristen to include Yoga activities in the vendor
    space.
  - Anna will take over scheduling activities and provide residential
    oversight of the space as needed
  - Gratitude Meetings (Tuesdays, facilitated by Brendan & Anna) Christina
    will cc Anna in an email to her ACASA contact regarding notifications to
    those who attended the Lighthouse Talks. Sheila shared the announcement
    with the Allegany County Wellness Committee (collaborative group which
    works with ACDOH to implement wellness goals determined by the community
    wellness survey and community needs assessment)
  - Yoga classes continue (Cindy Schreiner, instructor)
  - Anna would like to host an Ostara event in the main studio. Jeremy
    approved the event.
  - Members will continue to be invited to the Book Reading/Discussion groups,
    next topic tba

Vision / direction for the Rise Above Wellness Center Inc. not-for-profit
  Jeremy donates the space to Rise Above with Anna providing oversight of
  activities scheduled and practitioners coordinating clean up and maintenance
  of the space.  Jeremy sees the building as evolving to become a retreat
  center for future holistic wellness activities in the local area.
  - All members agreed that community outreach is a relatively organic social
    process supplemented by communications via email, bulletins, and social
    media and agreed these methods can also be used for outreach to local
    practitioners who might use the space
  - All agreed it would be beneficial to explore grants available to pay
    practitioners.
  - All members agreed that it is reasonable to accept a percentage of
    practitioners' funds received for activities which charge
    admission/accept donations.

OTHER ITEMS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
  Sheila will share local links to holistic wellness practitioners via email
  and the Rise Above fb discussion page. Creative Wellness Activities
  (partnered with Belfast Organization for Artists) to be added to the
  schedule in the Spring/Summer months.
